Writing good quality unique content and SEO friendly content should always go hand in hand if you want to become a successful blogger.
Let’s begin with How to Write an Awesome SEO Friendly Blog Post.
Prepare yourself before a day or two
Before writing an SEO friendly article, prepare yourself before a day or two so that on the day of writing your content, you have a clear mindset on the following points.
What are the steps involved in preparing yourself to write the best SEO friendly content?
1. Proper Keyword Research
The first and foremost step to write SEO friendly article is to do proper keyword research.
You cannot write anything on any topic which nobody wants to read. You don’t want to waste your precious time and money on a waste article.
Doing proper keyword research is itself a big topic to explain, but I would try to explain to you in short so that you can get an idea of how to do proper keyword research.
You can take help from the Google search engine.
Suppose you want to write about “best places to visit in Amritsar“.
You can simply search on Google search bar and you find the following results.
This will give you an idea about your topic to write for your blog post.
All the results Google search bar shows are the searches that people are searching for.
You can also see “People also ask” section
The more you scroll for the answers in “People also ask“, the more questions appear for your help.
Third, you can take help from the footer search which appears at the bottom of the page.
You can take help from various free keyword research tools like Google Keyword Planner, Google Trends, Ubersuggest, etc.
If you can afford, you can take the help of paid keyword research tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, etc.
You might have heard of writing content on low competitive and high volume Keywords. This is true if you want to rank fast in Google.
Finding such a keyword is not as easy as it looks.
Even it is difficult for a pro blogger to find such a keyword but it would be a better strategy if you can find one.
So you can write on a proper keyword on which people are searching and if you have written an SEO friendly blog post, then someday your blog will surely rank higher in Google.
I am sure that you have understood how to do proper keyword research.
2. Decide on how to write a Good Quality Unique Content
Now there are two things to keep in mind if I break down my heading- Good Quality and Unique Content.
Good quality content is not necessarily a unique content and vice versa.
Good quality content is that
- which is a long content, from about 600-2500 words.
- If it’s not long enough but it satisfies the intent of a reader, which means that content which answers all the questions that a reader has in his mind.
- avoid explaining in paragraphs, try to write in 1 or 2 sentences, not more than 2 sentences so that a reader finds it attractive to read further.
- Well-structured content is always a good quality content.
Unique content is that which is different from other contents available on the internet.
- Search for various content on the topic you want to write.
- Study closely and mug up all the content available in the first few pages in the search results.
- Look for what people have missed to include in their article like for some images, videos, etc. Make a note of this.
- Create your own structure, with all the points included. All the headings and sub-headings.
- Think of the length of the content which is necessary to fulfill all the needs of a reader.
- Read twice if you have covered all the important points.
Then when you write your article will be different and unique from other articles and you have better chances of higher rankings in Google.
If you copy someone else’s article, your Google rankings will be affected and then your content becomes duplicate.
In plagiarism checker, you can check your content, it must be 100% unique.
3. Look for some secondary keywords
Secondary keywords are those which are closely related to your primary keyword.
In the first point of keyword research, “People also ask” and “Searches related to” at the footer can give you an idea of the secondary keywords which you have to include in your article, which can help your blog post in better rankings in Google.
For example, if your main keyword is “laptop“, then your secondary keywords are “gaming laptop“, “laptop skin“, etc.
4. Look for some LSI keywords
LSI is Latent Semantic Indexing, which is a system that search engines use to analyze other words that people are searching for related to your focus keyword. LSI keywords are the synonyms of your focus keyword.
Using an LSI keyword in your post improves SEO traffic and hence higher rankings in Google.
This is because if your focus keyword is not ranking in Google SERP, might be some of your LSI keywords ranks better in search results and hence your post gets higher ranking in Google because of your LSI keywords.
So, a sprinkling of LSI keywords is of much higher importance if you want to write an SEO friendly blog post.
Now you have your primary keyword, secondary keyword, LSI keywords and you have your content structure, now let’s begin writing an SEO friendly blog post.
Writing the Title of your Post
The title of your blog posts is what appears first when anyone searches anything in Google.
An engaging title increases the CTR(Click through Rates) and you draw more traffic to your website.
The following points must be kept in mind before you write the title of your SEO friendly blog post.
- It can include “How to” or “What is” so that it matches people’s behavior on how people search for.
- It can include any number like the running year “2020“, or if it is a step-by-step guide it can include “6 Step-by-Step“, or “Top 6“, etc.
- Make it more engaging by using power words like “The Ultimate Guide“, “Powerful“, “Best“, “Exclusive“, “Special”, “Proven”, etc.
- The length of the Title must not be more than 60-70 characters so that it fits the entire title in the search results page. The ideal length is having 66 characters.
- Always include your primary keyword in your main title.
Structure of your blog post
The structure of your blog post contains three parts:
The introduction part is very important for any blog post. You must introduce the topic in which you are going to write an article.
The most important is that you must include your main keyword in the first line of your introduction part. It gives a strong signal to the search engine about which topic is your article about.
It helps the search engine crawlers to understand your article right from the introduction part.
If you haven’t used the primary keyword in your introduction part then crawlers might be confused about your topic and your rankings might be affected.
The body of a blog post will contain some headings and sub-headings which are popularly known as H2, H3 and H4, and so on headings.
Using the correct heading tags is important for SEO Copywriting.
The H1 heading is your main title, which we have already discussed that it must contain your primary keyword.
H2 Heading is a sub-heading for H1 tag and it should contain similar keywords related to your H1 tag. You must try to include your primary keyword in your first few H2 tags also which is recommended for better SEO results.
Similarly, you must try to include your primary keyword in your H3 tags, which improves your SEO and makes your post an SEO optimized article.
Always try to keep your paragraphs short, like only 1-2 sentences in each paragraph, which improves the readability for a reader, not more than two sentences.
If a reader is reading your content in a mobile device, then two sentences will appear in four lines on his mobile.
If you increase the number of sentences in a single paragraph, it looks clustered in his mobile which is bad for readability and might be boring for him to read.
Similarly, you must include your primary keyword in your conclusion part, for better SEO results.
Always try to bold, or Italic those words which you want to focus on explaining, as this looks interesting to a reader, hence improving readability.
You must bold your primary keywords, secondary and LSI keywords. This is not compulsory but it will improve the readability of your SEO friendly blog post.
Meta Description is a 160 characters snippet usually displays in the search results which provides a brief idea to the visitor about the content before clicking on that particular content.
What is the significance of a good meta description?
A well-written meta description can increase the CTR(Click-through rate).
Meta Description will appear in your WordPress, as shown below. You can edit by clicking on “Edit Snippet”.
Try to include your focus keyword in the meta description, for better SEO results.
SEO Optimized Image (Use of Image Alt Attribute)
The significance of using an SEO Optimized image is to give information to Google for what image is about because Google can’t read images so you have to give Image Alt Tag a name that defines that image.
That name can be your focus keyword, which is better for SEO optimization, and hence helps Google to index your images.
Many people make mistakes of saving the image name as “Untitled”, which is a wrong practice.
For example, if the image you saved is about SEO friendly blog post, and if you save the image name as”SEO”, your image will not be targeted. Instead, save the name as an “SEO friendly blog post” so that Google understands what your image is all about.
For adding an image to your blog, go to “Add Media”, and upload an image you want to upload in your blog post.
As you can see from the below image, put the alternative text as your focus keyword, and make the size to full size.
Another advantage of saving your image as your focus keyword is that if sometime your image is failed to upload, it will show the name of your unopened image, and the visitor can understand what the image is about even if he doesn’t see the image.
Interlinking your old posts
Interlinking is a practice in which you link your old posts when you are writing your new blog posts.
Does it improve your SEO?
Well, it surely improves your SEO because when you link your old posts, you are engaging your readers for some more time on your website.
Hence, it reduces the bounce rate of your website, so it ultimately boosts your SEO.
This technique is called the Anchor Text Technique.
As shown in the image, to add a link, click on “Insert/edit link“.
Then the below pop-up appears, select your blog post which you want to insert, and click on “Add Link“.
Hence, your old post link will be inserted in your new blog post.
Optimize Your Permalink
The term “Permalink” came from “Permanent” and “Link“.
What is a Permalink and Why is it important?
Permalink is a full URL of any blog post. A permalink is necessary when you need to link a specific blog post. A permalink, in simple words, is an address (URL) of that blog post.
How to optimize a permalink for SEO?
A permalink is automatically generated as the full title of your blog post. To optimize for SEO, you just have to shorten your permalink and include only that which is your primary, or focus keyword and if it is still too long, you can remove stop words from your permalink.
For example, if my blog post is “How to Choose a Perfect Blogging Niche in 20 mins (with 100+ Niche Ideas)
I can shorten my permalink as “How to Choose a Perfect Blogging Niche” or if I want I can remove the stop words like “a”, “an”, “the” from my permalink.
So, I can re-write it as “Choose Perfect Blogging Niche”.
Remember: Don’t change your permalink after you publish your post.
My view on SEO Friendly Blog Post
While writing a blog, just remember that you are explaining to the newbie blogger. Try to explain in detail and the more in-depth knowledge you give, the more engagement will be your readers.
Always try to fulfill the intent of a newbie and explain with such clarity that that person needs not to surf the internet for more details.
Try to include everything in your blog post since there is no such word limit for writing a blog post. More lengthy blogs rank more easily than short posts but remember not to include unnecessary details just to make your blog post more lengthy.
This article is just about making SEO friendly blog post but SEO has two major categories- On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO, which are of much importance if you want to rank your blog post in the top 10 rankings in Google.
